L1 DIP Construction Skills
Local employers identify the wide range of opportunities for those who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and behaviours that will enable them take on the wide range of jobs needed in areas such as property maintenance, and small construction projects.
The Level 1 programme in Construction Skills provides students with an introduction to the basic skills of joinery, brick-laying, maintaining electrical implements, plumbing and decorating. It provides the foundation skills and knowledge needed to progress onto Level 2 courses in specific vocational areas.
Students will follow a range of units that cover a breadth of skills including:
- Introduction to the construction industry
- Introduction to health and safety in construction
- Constructing through mortice and tenon joints
- Fitting locks and latches
- Painting techniques
- Painting and wallpapering
- Constructing one brick walling
- Connecting pipes and fittings to appliances
- Cutting, bending, jointing and threading conduit
Students joining this course will usually be able to demonstrate one, or more, of the following:
- GCSE English and Maths at Grades 1 or 2
- Entry Level 3 in Employability Skills
- Prior experience within at least one practical skills
Students will undertake trips and visits to a range of local businesses in order that they can understand the skills, knowledge, and employability skills that employers need.
You will also be encouraged to take part in small maintenance projects as part of Skegness TEC's contribution to the local community.
Students joining this course will usually be able to demonstrate one, or more, of the following:
- GCSE English and Maths at Grades 1 or 2
- Entry Level 3 in Employability Skills
- Prior experience within at least one practical skills
