Our Hospitality & Catering course Information
What you will learn
Level 1 (Certificate)
On this City & Guilds qualification you will learn about: food safety in catering, health and safety awareness, introduction to kitchen equipment, preparing & cooking by boiling, poaching, steaming, baking, roasting, grilling, deep frying and shallow frying.
Level 2 (VRQ Diploma)
Also a City and Guilds qualification, you will do modules in: developing skills for employment, food safety in catering, health and safety, healthier foods/special diets, catering operations, costs and menu planning, preparing and cooking stocks, soups, sauces, fruit, vegetables, meat, offal, poultry, fish, shellfish, pasta, rice, grains, egg dishes, hot and cold desserts and puddings, producing products and professional cookery.
Level 1: No formal qualifications required however learners should be working at E2 or above in functional skills.
Level 2: Relevant industry experience or 4 GCSEs at grade D (3) or above in maths, English and hospitality. Learners should be working at L1 or above in functional skills.
All students on full-time courses will be given the chance to do 10 days work experience through the year.
If you choose to carry on studying you might think about a Foundation Degree in Food Manufacturing Management or work towards a Management Diploma, the possibilities really are endless. Once you have completed higher-level qualifications you have a greater chance of earning higher wages in the industry.
Skegness is recognised as one of the East Coast’s busiest tourist resorts, there are also lots of hotels, restaurants, public houses and catering companies all looking for people to work in both the kitchen and front-of-house positions.
