They’ll prepare you for everything you need to know to make the most in a worthwhile, rewarding and challenging career.There are a number of possibilities for a career in Health & Social Care in our region with many of our learners choosing to go straight into full-time careers like Residential or Private Care, or even working in one of the region’s Hospitals.

What you will learn
Level 1
This course is great for school leavers to get a high standard of knowledge in health and social care while developing employability skills to prepare for a career.
Level 2
The Level 2 is a Pearson BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care. Get a broad knowledge and understanding of the sector through course modules in human lifespan development, health & social care values, effective communication, promoting health & wellbeing, the impact of nutrition on health & wellbeing, equality & diversity, individual rights, healthy living, human body systems & disorder care and creative & therapeutic activities in health & social care.
Level 3 (Award)
The NCFE Cache Level 3 Award looks at preparing your for a career with an insight into working with children and adults. Ideal for school leavers looking to do health & social courses, you will learn about Equality & Diversity, human growth & development and safeguarding in health & social care.
Level 3 (Certificate)
The NCFE Cache Level 3 Certificate is more for those looking for a career in the service sector and want to progress to further higher education and/or university. It covers the three from the Award alongside communication, infection prevention & control, psychological perspectives, sociological perspectives, working in health & social care and reflective practice.
Entry Requirements
Level 2: Level 1 qualification or D grade & above in maths & English or working towards Level 2 Functional skills grade in maths/English.
Level 3 (Award): Two GCSEs that are 4-9 grade (preferably English and maths).
Level 3 (Certificate): Grade 4-9 in at least four subject areas including maths and English. Other experience for mature students will be taken into account.
Work Experience
Work experience is also an important part of this course and will help you understand the skills you have learnt and provide you with new insight into the industry.
You will do 10 days/75 hours worth of work experience with the employers we work with such as care/nursing homes, hospices, hospitals, nurseries and schools.
What Next
If you choose to carry on your studies you could progress to study for a FdA in Children, Young People and Families or FdA Social Care (subject to validation) at the College.
Many universities across the UK also offer degrees in a wide variety of Health & Social Care that can lead to a fascinating career in the area of your choice.
