Building Services Electrical Installation

If employment within the wide variety of companies, and other employment opportunities, that rely upon trained electricians is your intention then these courses will give you all the answers you need and more!
Our fully qualified teachers continue to work within the industry and provide the range of knowledge and skills training that you need.
From learning how to wire basic sockets, and wire your average light fittings, through to working on more complex lighting circuits and fire alarm systems under the watchful eye of our fully qualified and industry experienced tutors.
It is important that we prepare our students for the changing expectations of the industry too. Tutors will show you how to understand, and work within, the renewable energy sector. You’ll also gain the knowledge to build systems on your own and could even go on to be a freelance electrician or electrical installation contractor.
Study at Level:
Courses are available at
- Level 1
- Level 2
Level 1 and Level 2 courses last one year.
Students may also access apprenticeship programmes at Level 2 or Level
3 through our colleagues at Grimsby Institute.

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.
NOTE IN SOME AREAS THERE IS A HIGHER MATHS OR ENGLISH CONTENT, OR HIGHER TECHNICAL SKILLS ARE REQUIRED, THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS MAY BE HIGHER THAN STATED BELOW. APPLICANTS ARE ADVISED OF ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUAL COURSES AT THEIR INTERVIEW AND THIS IS CHECKED AT ENROLMENT.
Level 1 Programmes
- GCSEs grades 1-2
- Level 2 Programmes
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3 (previously D) or above including Maths and English language
- OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
Once you successfully complete your course you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a Tutor.
If you’ve finished your Level 2 course you will be offered advice and guidance from our Career Advisers on how to apply for a job or an Apprenticeship.
At Level 1, students will undertake a range of internal tasks that mimic real-life working opportunities and help you understand the requirements of various job roles
At Level 2, students will complete several days of experience within local companies. This will provide valuable experience that prepares you for entry into the industry.

Successful students may access a wide range of Career Opportunities including:
- Industrial, commercial or domestic electrician
- Wind turbine operative
- Solar panel installer
- PAT testing technician
Students find employment with a wide variety of local employers, national companies, or enter into self-employment.
